I cook the cabbage at the end. Cut it in wedges and cooked seperately from the meat. I employ i/2 cooking liquid from the meat and 1/2 craven broth with butter added to the liquid. Cooked until just crisp tender. Gives the cabbage a lovely flavor, information technology stays light-green and doesn't get all mushy.

This recipe is very good every bit written and is very like shooting fish in a barrel to make. I ever like to read the reviews and make the recipe the original way so again and tweek to reviews equally needed, I like helpful effective reviews. The only frustrating affair is when people modify the whole recipe. They should transport in their own. Tracey did not even comment on this recipe,(not sure if she tried it) put hers in the reviews and said her family unit will only eat hers. That is smashing but I feel it is a disrespectful to the persons recipe. Delight send in slight changes to help us, practise not rewrite. Cheers

Absolutely delicious. I started out by cooking this on the stove top equally the recipe states (for nearly 45 minutes) but due to a family emergency, I had to leave the house. Earlier leaving, I put the meat and liquid into my crock pot. By the time I got dwelling, the meat was perfectly cooked (45 minutes on stove, then 7 hours in crock pot for an virtually 3 lb. roast). I took the advice of another reviewers and added 1/2 stick of butter to the liquid every bit the meat cooked and I also used beef goop instead of h2o. The next day on the stovetop I cooked the cabbage, carrots and potatoes in the liquid the meat cooked in the night before. When the vegetalbes were done, I added the meat dorsum into the liquid but to warm it. Information technology was SOOOOOO skilful!! I volition definitely make this once more!!

Fantastic! I have always kind of "winged" information technology with corned beefiness and cabbage, with varying degrees of success. I read many of the reviews and added a bottle of beer to the water to simmer the meat in. WOW! This is it! From at present on, no more than winging it! For spices, I used the packet seasonings, some minced garlic. Added unpeeled ruby potatoes, onion slices, babe carrots and of course cabbage wedges.

this is my first fourth dimension making corned beef and cabbage, and my fiance and i thought information technology was terrfic, the meat was very tender and juicy while the vegetables was absolutley superb & tasty. The corned beef was 3.75 lbs that came along with the spice bundle, instead of water i used beef broth, added 6 large cloves of garlic, ane large white onion cut up into wedges, 2 bay leaves, 12 whole peppercorns, ten minor red potatoes/carrots, 3 tbls of butter to bring out the richness of taste ... all in a crockpot -- information technology took me 8 hours to cook this dinner and information technology was worth every infinitesimal of it.

I did not have to melt this recipe, this is the same as my granddaddy always made information technology. To the people out the writing reviews adding beef broth and what non . . THIS IS Non Beefiness STEW! It IS Not SUPPOSED TO TASTE Like Information technology. If you change the recipe then you are making something else. This is exactly how y'all make Irish gaelic corned beef and cabbage. If you lot change it, and so you are making something else.

Jeepers, it needs onions! Everything except desserts needs onions!
03/17/2013
This will be the fouth time using this recipe and it is simple and yummy. The modest changes I do is cut upwardly the potatoes and use small carrots that I don't take to cut or skin. I don't understand why the most helpful review on here does non follow this recipe at ALL! Delight post your ain recipe and let people review it. I find it NOT helpful to me when reading reviews. If yous add Beef broth, brownish sugar, mushrooms, onions, even beer. I can understand one or two changes simply all that is something unlike so Corned beef and cabbage.

Thank you again for a wonderful recipe but thanks likewise to all who write these great reviews. It is so nice to read what cooks think of the dish they make. Yesterday I fabricated this Corned Beef & Cabbage & in my 45 years married to wonderful Irish hubby he tells his Italian wife that it was the all-time yet. WOW! What is funny to me about Allrecipes.com is that now whenever I come with a new dish, friends or family will say: Allrecipe.com?? They know me by now. The reviews helped so much on these recipes. The problem I had with this is that at that place were no spice packets in the pkg. so I just did my own thing…4 garlic cloves, crushed, pepper corns, mustard corns, two bay leaves, pepper, dry mustard & the only change I fabricated was adding canteen of beer. When the beefiness was done I put it in a dish, covered with foil. Then cooked my veggies in those wonderful juices till not quite washed. When they were washed I put them in a dish with broth, covered with foil & put in a warm oven till I was ready to serve. Sliced my cooled down beefiness, put in a 13 X nine dish covered with foil put in oven till fix to serve. I did make the Horseradish sauce and it was very good as well, but I found that it was cold next to the nice hot corned beef. I'm sticking to Grey Poupon….Also a picayune sprinkle of white vinegar on cabbage is great. Also helps with any problem that may occur later on!! ? Outstanding!! Wow…great recipe. Thank you Laria and thank you all with the great reviews. Nana Happy St. Patrick's D

All-time Corned Beef and Cabbage E'er!! I didn't alter a affair and it turned out perfect!! Super simple recipe with amazing results! YUM
12/22/2009
Straightforward recipe that turned out a tasty boiled dinner. The only thing I'd do differently next fourth dimension is skim the top once information technology boils the outset fourth dimension then add the spices.
01/28/2004
I executed the recipe as is (can't truly rate it otherwise can y'all?) and was thoroughly pleased with the results. Timing is very subjective of form, depending on the the kind of pot you utilize (enamelled iron, steel...), your stovetop (gas, electrical, halogen...) or oven (regular, convection...), just the times given in the original recipe are a very good gauge - just remember that tenderness is what you aim for. My only add-on was a generous swirl of sweet butter in the strained broth before serving; information technology adds a lovely richness to the sauce. Eight thumbs up (there were four of us)!
03/16/2006
This is the way it's done. We always told my mother to make extra veggie'south because we knew what was coming the next solar day and that was the best role. The next mean solar day was common cold sliced corned beef and my mother'due south vegetable fry. She would chop upward all the leftover potatoes, carrots and cabbage and fry upwards in a well seasoned atomic number 26 skillet.. what she used as base, butter I think, she would allow cook until information technology got crispy, then plow and practice once again. To this day, I can not indistinguishable merely continue trying. Try it yous will dear it. A medley of flavour..

I've been doing it this way for over thirty years. In the last half 60 minutes I'll pull the brisket from the pot, put it in a roaster and comprehend it with i/four cup of brown sugar and identify covered in the oven with just a small amt of juice in the bottom. The brown saccharide will melt and create a wonderful coat for the corned beef. While the beef is in the oven I'll apply the liquid in the pot for the veges and and so I'll also add together a layer of dumplings to the height afterwards the veges begin to boil. Luv it so much that I exercise it more than just Patty'south Day

The perfect simple Corned Beef recipe. There's plenty of ways to prepare this meat, but if you lot want simple and delicious simply follow along and you won't exist disappointed. I am usually a recipe "modder" I seem to always be adjusting quantities and adding things. However lately I have been just trying recipes as they are written to find out how the author likes it. This one was fantastic! I was very skeptical of the simplicity, just wow it only was not bad! Cheers alot!

Keen recipe. added tracey hint: I accept the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot'due south are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smooth. one/iii cup of brown sugar, two tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, i/3 cup of ketchup, and 3 tblsp of apple tree cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smooth, then cascade over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. xxx to 40 mins. at 350 volition do information technology. Hope you similar it, all of my friends who hate corned beefiness will only swallow mine!
04/12/2014
Lovely people, This recipe is wonderful written 'as is' - but I'd similar to speak to those of you who are aggravated virtually people changing up the recipe and so rating it, since 'irresolute information technology up' really doesn't requite you lot an accurate review of the recipe as written. I have this to offering: Some of us use what'southward on-hand rather than going out and buying ingredients specific to the recipe. I find this very helpful on occasion because ane) you might non have to go shopping if y'all apply the substitutes or 2) you tin can learn a unlike manner to use a spice or other ingredient - which only makes you a meliorate cook. Also - I've found a few recipe reviewers who take taken allergies into consideration. Sometimes those 'change ups' can be invaluable and relieve time when you lot don't accept to scour the Internet trying to find a way to omit a certain ingredient simply however get the total event of the dish. I, as well, am sometimes frustrated with the review system - but if you try to understand where the reviewer is coming from, sometimes you can make a 'but okay' dish into something completely out of your original realm of thinking. Tolerance, folks ... just past the mere fact that people take the time to review dishes, even if they practise alter them a scrap, shows they care enough to share their information with yous. Happy cooking!
03/12/2011
I add ane more stride (succulent) later on you remove the corned beef from the liquid, brush the summit with regular prepared mustard and then add a sparse layer of lite chocolate-brown suger on elevation of the mustard, put into a 350 oven for about 30 min.
04/03/2012
I fixed this 4 times in March. I practise believe that it is the all-time Corned beef and Cabbage recipe. I have a very expert Irish friend of 75 yrs old and she told me it was the best she e'er had...and preceded to tell it to the owners of a 100 twelvemonth old Irish deli and store. I cooked it in just guiness beer and beefiness broth. Added peppercorns, bay leaf and onions. When the meat was tender I removed it from the pot and glazed it with a tart Orange marmalade, brownish mustard and chocolate-brown saccharide glaze and wrapped in foil and put it in the oven. Then I strained the broth, and then added the potatoes and carrots and a stick of butter. I cooked the cabbage (I used savoy cabbage) in a separate skillet, braising it in the broth with butter until cooked but still crispy. Made a Horseradish sauce of three/four sour cream, 1/four horseradish, 1 tlbs dried chives and the juice of 1/2 lemon. This recipe volition impress anyone you serve it to.
08/10/2008
Skillful recipe. The corned beef is really cracking when served topped with a horseradish dressing. 1/2 loving cup mayo, one/ii cup sourcream and horseradish to taste.
03/12/2009
This has been my standard recipe for years. I have found one thing that takes it to the peak. Afterward the corned beef is done cooking I remove information technology from the pot or crock pot and top information technology with a coat of mustard and brown sugar. You can mix information technology to your liking. I make a lot and let it drip downward all the sides. I then put it in the oven until it is heated through and the brown sugar is dissolved. Then slice and relish.
03/xiv/2012
I concur with others...skip the crock pot...the old fashioned manner works best. I like to melt the corned beefiness, remove from water and wrap in aluminum foil to keep hot. And then I strain the h2o to exit the peppercorns and re-employ to melt potatoes, carrots and cabbage. This way y'all don't bite into a large peppercorn hiding in the cabbage.
03/20/2007
As per some of the suggestions, I used 2 cans of beer & 2 cans of beef broth instead of water and cooked it for 7 hours in the crockpot. I as well added iii cloves of garlic and an onion to the crockpot. I should have given the potatoes and carrots 90 minutes. I only allowed for thirty and dinner was quite tardily. Even my husband liked it who swore he hates corned beef and has never liked cabbage - but he ate information technology all!
03/11/2012
this was fabulous, get-go I boiled the corned beef on acme of stove in water, one guinness, ane bay leaf, the spice packet, and one shot of Jameson whiskey, I followed the communication of some other review which said to glaze the corned beef for the last 40 minutes with the i/3 cup brown saccharide, 2tbsp melted butter, 1 tbsp prepared mustard, 1/iii cup of ketchup, and 3 tbsp of apple tree cider vinegar, bake 40 minutes at 350degrees while the vegetables are cooking, cut the corned beef across the grain. Serve with soda staff of life. Information technology is soooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
03/02/2005
Only a annotation that may assist in cooking this meal, Add together some Caraway seeds when you lot add the cabbage. Information technology will help to get rid of the gas that you will probably go from eating the cabbage.

Traditional corned beef for St. Patrick's 24-hour interval.. or any other time of the year when you can't stand to take it only once! ***UPDATE: I made this again this year and it was absolutely delicious, merely with these alterations: I used 1 can of Guiness, beef broth, and a water to boil the meat. In addition to the spice packet, I added 2-3 tbsp. mustard seeds, whole black peppercorns, and 3 bayleaves. The cabbage took about 20 minutes to cook fifty-fifty when I turned upwardly the temp (I took out the meat). I would recommend 2 heads of cabbage b/c I like the cabbage. I used most an unabridged (salve the few I snacked on while cooking) 1 lb. bag of baby carrots and 12 babe ruddy potatoes. I wouldn't omit the potatoes b/c they absorb a lot of the salt and y'all can end up with a really salty roast. Anyway, this recipe is a great starting point, simply with additions information technology tin be awesome... and it was! Everybody gobbled it up on St. Patty's. Thanks!
03/17/2012
This was very good! The only change I fabricated was to add three big cloves of chopped garlic. I also made a sauce for the brisket as mentioned by a member named Tracey. This is what she said... "I accept the corned beefiness out and while the cabbage carrots and pot's are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smooth. 1/3 cup of chocolate-brown carbohydrate,ii tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/3 cup of ketchup, and 3 tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smooth, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. xxx to xl mins. at 350 will exercise information technology. Hope you like information technology, all of my friends who hate corned beef will only consume mine!"... Tracey's sauce recipe was PERFECT!!! I'll brand my corned beefiness like this from now on!
02/05/2013
Skilful, bones and functional - what I'd call a reference recipe. I did mine in the wearisome cooker and added a bottle of Guiness Draught with enough water to cover. I cooked the cabbage separately in some of the cooking liquid. Reliable, but more instructional than a unique recipe.
02/17/2014
I'm Irish. VERY Irish gaelic. And this is my GO TO recipe for corned beef and cabbage. I only gave it three stars, so why is information technology my Go To?? I gave information technology iii stars based on how it tastes equally-is. Information technology's my Go To because it keeps the recipe simple. Here's the matter - you don't have to practice anything fancy to make amazing, over-the-top corned beefiness and cabbage. People remember information technology needs to be complicated. Information technology doesn't!! The But thing I added and it makes a HUGE difference - 1/2 jar of McCormick Pickling Spice. I forgot this ingredient once and never will again.
05/04/2009
this is the all-time corned beef and cabbage i have always tasted an perpared, subed beefiness goop for water and cooked veggies in broth......wow i couldnt stop eating.THANKS? LOL
03/17/2014
I followed the recipe exactly every bit written. Oh, except I changed a million things. By the time it was finished, it was an entirely different meal. Loved information technology!
03/13/2011
I but fabricated this recipe tonight. I didn't change a single matter! It WAS Awesome!!!
06/05/2013
Cut off the big fat then cover the corn beef with beef broth Add peppercorns, bay leaf and onions to spice packet. Before adding the spice packet, yous first bring the meat to a boil and skim the foamy stuff off the tiptop of the water.. melt meat @ fifty min. per lb Take the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot's are cooking in the liquid, Add together some Caraway seeds when yous add the cabbage. Coat for brisket Put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until polish. 1/3 cup of brown sugar,2 tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/iii loving cup of ketchup, and three tblsp of apple tree cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smooth, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. 30 to 40 mins. at 350 will do it.
12/28/2009
Hullo, quick question. If I want to cease this in the oven do I shorten the original cooking time? Thank you
02/28/2011
Oh my gosh! Wonderful. I prepared it right by the recipe. My family of five gobbled upwards a two.vii pound corned beef brisket in no time. There wasn't much chat at this repast, except that they were begging me to cook this again even before we were done eating. Will definately cook once more!
03/11/2009
My husband and I enjoyed this very much. Our kids had never eaten Corn beef, so they were on the fence, however for them. They loved the veggies very very much. I placed this in the crock pot/slow cooker all solar day. I used a 6qt on high. My pot was actually full so the cabbage I placed in 1 1/2 hours out from serving dinner. All the veggies were soo good. The meat was very tender, flavored well and soo piece of cake to dissever for slices. Will make this again for married man and I.
09/08/2008
This is the aforementioned recipe my grandma taught me but to save time, I put everything in the crock pot.
xi/03/2002
Wonderful recipe! I would definately make this again. Even so, I would change a couple of things. First, if the corned beefiness you buy has an excessive amount of fat on the underside as many of them do, trim the fat. Also, exercise as one reviewer suggested, add together beefiness goop instaed of water. I also added an onion. Loved this easy to make recipe. Try it.
03/14/2009
I fabricated this one concluding calendar week and it was actually good. I rinsed off the beef when I took information technology out of the package, and then proceeded every bit directed. I used regular potatoes, peeled and cut in half instead of the blood-red potatoes and they worked fine. I cooked the potatoes and carrots nigh 30 minutes before adding the cabbage. The meat was very tender and the veggies cooked just right.
03/18/2009
I wait all year for this meal only I had never made information technology myself until this year. A friend gave me the advice to pull the beef out of the pot when you put the veggies in, sprinkle brown sugar on top and bake it at 350' until the veggies and cabbage are done. It was SO skilful! Please endeavor this!!!
01/08/2014
Followed exactly and information technology was fantastic. Husband wants more!
03/fourteen/2009
I don't fifty-fifty like corned beef and cabbage and this was a hit! For the near office, I stuck to the recipe. Just added one bottle of Harp beer, a Tbs. of minced garlic and a dash of celery salt. I did not include the potatoes with the meat because we were having another spud sidedish, only I recollect they would've been skillful cooked in the pot. I cooked a 3 i/4lb. piece of meat for about four hours and it shredded beautifully. Great recipe!
01/09/2012
Xclnt, piece of cake dish! made this a few times. I apply a VERY large pot. I added ane tin can of light beer, and nearly ii cups of apple tree juice. Then filled the residuum with h2o to comprehend meat. 45mins earlier brisket should be done, I add carrots and potatoes. 20mins earlier everything is done, I added the cabbage. YUM-O!
12/10/2006
OH MY! So much for following the recipe. While my beef was simmering in 8 cups of water for two.5 hrs, I took a siesta. The water all evaporated and the beef burned. Fourth dimension to beginning over again. A glass of vino for me, or maybe two, a fresh brisket, and half again as much water.
06/16/2008
I have been making this for years. I also add a bottle of beer. I also use new potatos and celery, carrots, onion, fresh snap peas, fresh garlic, black pepper corns, mustard seed, dill seed, and lemon juice. Red pepper and bell pepper. I tin can swallow this for days. I don't trim the fatty. The fatty is i of my favorite parts. This is one of the very few recipes I make that I am not fatty witting about. This and steaks. I can eat this soup for days 6 times a day!
03/17/2011
This is the archetype preparation. I follow this procedure with a few changes: Cut the cabbage into large chunks and steam it separately until tender. Add together as much butter as your nutrition will allow :) and season with salt and pepper. When the corned beef is fully cooked, remove it and put information technology in a baking dish. Mix mustard and brown sugar to make a very thick paste. Spread the paste on top of the corned beef. Put the meat under the broiler until information technology bubbles and crisps. Past cooking the cabbage separately and adding the dark-brown saccharide paste you'll savour more multifariousness of flavors and you lot'll get a little crisis for texture.
02/26/2007
This was my first time making Corned Beef and Cabbage and this recipe is definitely a keeper. I will be making this again! I used the red flat corned beef, turnip, peeled potatoes (both ruby and Russet - couldn't tell the departure in taste), carrots, cabbage, white onion. My corned beefiness did non come w/ a spice bundle, but when the meal is complete, the taste is still to die for. I added a little table salt and pepper and a bit of garlic, only there is really no need to.
03/19/2004
I'm a rookie when it comes to cooking. In fact, I have never cooked a complete meal earlier attempting this recipe. On St. Patrick's twenty-four hour period, my married woman was working and I wanted to surprise her with a corn beef and cabbage dinner when she got home. The directions were like shooting fish in a barrel to follow and the finished product was outstanding! I also made corn bread (my get-go attempt at baking bread). I used chicken broth instead of only water as some others had recommended. The carrots and potatoes were really good as well!! I was really surprised how delecious the meal plough out then was my married woman!!
10/04/2005
Love this recipe! Other reviewers suggest adding beefiness broth, peppercorns, etc., but I think this comfort food is best made simply, just like good 'ol mashed potatoes. Speaking of potatoes, if you decide not to use them, wait the goop to be pretty salty since the potatoes blot a good amount of table salt during the cooking process. Also, for those with kids, mash the potatoes and carrots together (or separately) with a fork, add together a petty butter, and they'll probably love it! Mine did (age 6 and 7).
03/14/2011
used 4.7lb beef, two heads cabbage, 7 med yellow taters . Cooked beefiness 3hr20min,added taters cook 1 hr, added cabbage . cooked 30-35min till cabbabe tender but crispy ! cracking !!!
10/11/2002
YUM! I added extra peppercorns & beef goop instead of water (every bit others suggested), classic cb&c, nosotros dear it! My picky daughter ate left over chicken with the potatoes & carrots ;)Thanks Laria!
12/25/2006
if yous want to add a bit more color and mayhap a hint more sweet to this recipe, endeavour red cabbage with the light-green, it is wonderful.
03/16/2012
Adding a store bought spice mix and adding information technology to water is not a recipe.
01/01/2011
Simply perfect! Even hubby liked it and he is not a veggie lovin guy and so I wasn't sure well-nigh the cabbage just he went back for thirds!
12/18/2013
OMG This is then tasty information technology's to die for! You don't demand Whatever other seasoning other than the little package that comes with the beef, non even salt. The meat itself does all the seasoning and flavoring for yous. Don't exist scared about how your cabbage will taste! Another little tip - ADD SOME ONIONS. I love onions and it makes everything that much better!! :) My family devoured this pot!
08/17/2002
Somewhat tasteless - won't cook once more.
02/01/2011
I love this recipe equally it is, only I establish making two minor modifications makes it fifty-fifty ameliorate (at to the lowest degree in my family'southward opinion). First, add a one-half-cup or so of cooking sherry to the pot before starting. Second, replace the cabbage with ane-1.5 pounds of Brussels sprouts. It makes for a nice twist on an quondam favorite.
01/28/2011
FABULOUS! Similar a another reviewer, I had ever winged information technology when it came to corned beef & cabbage. I followed this recipe to a tee and absolutely everything came our PERFECT! Corned Beef tender and starting to fall apart - which I dear - and the potatoes, carrots and cabbage were perfectly soft simply non soggy. From here on out, this will be THE recipe to apply!
03/fifteen/2010
This is amazing! I used another reviewers tip and used one can of beer and 3 big cloves garlic pressed through my garlic printing (and then enough h2o to cover beefiness and adding the spices from the parcel) and added i whole stick of butter at the same time I added the cabbage. I besides cut my potatoes because they were fairly large carmine potatoes and that worked well. Cracking Bully Keen Recipe!!!!
03/eleven/2011
I prepared this just like the directions and my family merely loved it!!
03/09/2014
Everything is okay until the total lack of onions. One onion, white or yellow, medium pocket-size per person.
03/15/2011
Actually, real Irish don't even eat this. Information technology'due south an American Irish immigrant tradition from when this cutting of meat was about the cheapest available. the poorer they were, the less that went into information technology. They too didn't have the nice petty spice packet either. Anyway, add the carrots, garlic, and if you feeling sassy, add broccoli tips. eddy with a guinnes
12/31/2012
This recipe is perfect. I had never made corned beef before because I did non like it every bit a child, but my hubby is Irish and actually missed it. I tried this skeptically -- We all loved information technology! Now my kids request it all the time. The best part nigh it is that the cabbage but cooks through, so it is not mushy and tasteless. It has a wonderful, fresh flavor and is very like shooting fish in a barrel to make.
03/12/2009
We did not care for this at all! The veggies were not done enough & the cooktime wasn't long plenty to disperse the flavors. I call back it needs to be cooked all day.
03/fifteen/2010
I made this Sun, it was to dice for. My hubby simply loved the beef, said it was the best he has always eaten. Thank you
01/01/2013
Perfect and easy! I tried corned beefiness terminal twelvemonth in a pressure cooker, information technology tasted cypher like this. This is easy. I made it exact to instructions with a 3 lb corned beef. Even my family liked the carrots, and no one in my family likes cooked carrots. We just voted to accept this on a normal rotation for dinner instead of only new years twenty-four hours and St. Patrick'southward solar day.
04/04/2011
fabricated every bit written. It was practiced. The 2nd time I added a little red vino and h2o, 3 bay leaves, 3 whole cloves of garlic, ii stalks celery, iii carrots,1/2 onion, and spice packet. Left the potatoes out. Added cabbage last hr of cooking. Turned out perfect!
05/12/2009
This is the first time my corned beef came out great. Give thanks you for the recipe
01/21/2012
This is an first-class recipe! The simply other thing I add is an onion.
03/14/2009
Amazing. The pot I used was a little small, so information technology was a tight fit, but I made it work. Succulent carrots, potatoes, cabbage, and such tender corned beefiness. A fantastic recipe.
03/04/2003
This is a great recipe. Very like shooting fish in a barrel, which is important. Using beef goop was a good suggestion, however the meat that I used could have cooked a little longer and the cabbage was a little under done, probably 25 min would be better than 15. But overall information technology was very tasty and the whole family unit loved it!
03/xiv/2007
We melt this recipe every year at our St. Patty's Twenty-four hours party (sans the potatoes, add more cabbage), and our party grows every yr due to word of mouth about the corned beefiness. Terminal year we hosted over 100 people and went through 6 large crockpots of corned beef and cabbage.
05/21/2006
Great recipe! I used a behemothic roaster for this meal since we like a lot cabbage. This recipe is fool proof and always comes out perfect. I do put my carrots in with the meat cooking process since my family likes softer carrots and I add the potatos and cabbage together so you get no tough cabbage in the end. Thank you for the recipe!
03/fourteen/2015
I have tried many recipes similar this and they are all good. I'm directing my comments to all the negative people out there. Get out it alone, anybody knows it is not an Irish dish Information technology is a wonderful ane pot meal Stay positive and enjoy. Take a wonderful family mean solar day enjoying this meal.
02/27/2011

"What's more Irish than a traditional recipe for corned beefiness and cabbage?" The answer is - lots of things! Corned beef and cabbage is not a traditional Irish dish. Born and bred in Ireland, I was in my 50's when I spent some time in the US and was told that everyone eats corned beef and cabbage on St. Paddy's Day. I had never heard of it and I all the same have never tasted information technology. When I came dwelling from that trip I did ask around, in example I somehow had missed this vital part of Irish tradition, simply, no, I have even so to come across any Irish gaelic national who has actually eaten corned beef and cabbage. Further research has taught me that, in fact, Irish immigrants to America began eating corned beef, which they bought from Jewish butchers, because of their new-constitute affluence. At home, in Ireland, it was only the very wealthy who could afford to eat beefiness. So, eating corned beefiness on Paddy'south Twenty-four hours is really an American-Irish-Jewish tradition.

My family unit mowed through it. This should non be reserved for St Pats day. This is a world class meal....

This is the outset time I take made corned beef and cabbage this manner. Normally I arrive in the crock pot. I ever worried most it not coming out tender if information technology was boiled. This recipe was perfect, the but thing I added was a tin of beer for more than flavor. I will exist making it this way from now on. Bye bye crock pot recipe!

Good template for a superb classic dish. I highly recommend using a can or 2 low-sodium beefiness goop instead of water, which really enhances flavor without oversalting the recipe. If you're a garlichead like me effort tossing in 5 or 6 cloves when yous start the meat, and mash them into the stock after they melt to tender.

The best ever! I have tried everything from baking, steaming, to slow cooking. Nothing compares to this ane. The merely difference was, I added one peeled onion whole, a table spoon of alspice, and several bay leaves. Wow, this is the only ane for us.

This is the fashion to practice it! Comes out perfect. I only brand 2 pocket-size changes. I actually but let the cabbage eddy perchance 5 minutes. I like it to be much crispier. And, I really don't like the spice parcel. Comes out only great without information technology.

First of all, let me state I am not a corned beef fan. I decided to encompass my 12.5 % Irish gaelic blood in me on a whim this morning and make something in honor of St. Patrick's 24-hour interval. Stumbled upon this recipe with such rave reviews that I dashed out to the marketplace in search of a 3 lb corned beefiness and some soda bread...got Guinness as an impulse detail to authenticate the meal while I was at it, and glad I did since I used the reviewers suggestions and gave upward two of the bottles for the pot. I warned my hubby of about 25 years that if we didn't like the meat, in that location were plenty of veggies to sustain us. All I can say is I can no longer say I'thou not a corned beef fan...though so far I only like my own recipe (see how quickly something I learn becomes my own--it's a Greek affair)! I added 1 whole onion, iii cloves of garlic (I dear garlic and adjacent time I'll add more), 1 TBSP Allspice and doubled the carrots and cabbage. Not big into potatoes, but the family is, and potatoes are just then Irish. Simmered 3 hours, then added potatoes for 15 min, then the carrots for some other fifteen and so cabbage for the last 15. I heated up purchased Irish gaelic Soda Bread while the cabbage simmered. I served the meal on a large platter with the meat against ane side of the platter, with the veggies surrounding the meat--I put the potatoes on one side of the meat, the carrots on the other side and the cabbage between, surrounding the meat for a colorful presentation. The adults were given Guinness Bottles a

Delicious. We enjoyed this very much. I had no crimson potatoes, so I used half dozen medium-sized russets I had already, peeled and quartered. I layered the potatoes and carrots on the bottom of my crock pot and put the meat on meridian. My cabbage did not fit in my crock, so I laid it on top of the meat. I filled it halfway with water, threw in a few beef bullion cubes and let information technology cook. Equally the crock filled with juice I pushed the cabbage down a scrap. I cooked it on high for v hours or so and everything was great. Loved it. I don't recollect it needed the beefiness bullion. Very flavorful broth!

This was my outset time making corned beefiness, and I will definitely be making it again! The procedure is so easy, if somewhat lengthy, but the results are well worth it. I used half of the seasoning packet included in the package with the meat, and too took the recommended advice of using beef broth every bit the cooking liquid. When it was washed cooking, I found the meat to exist too salty, so I took the advice of another user and fabricated a simple coat out of brownish sugar, mustard, butter, ketchup, and apple cider vinegar, then put the beefiness in a small blistering pan and baked it at 350 for half an hour while the veggies cooked in the on the stove. I was a little skeptical, just the result was an extremely tender, salty-sweet brisket that went perfectly with the vegetables.

I fix this dish quite often as my family loves it! I merely add, during the last 1/2 hour, the potatoes and carrots around the beef then place cabbage wedges on top of everything to steam, cover and finish cooking. Too, to serve DO please try a generous amount of French's Mustard on the sliced corn beef and butter on the veggies ...it's just heavenly!

It got my six year old girl to consume cabbage. My married woman and 2 year old son are not too keen on corned beefiness, but the kid and I love corned beef (especially cold leftovers). This recipe was simple and perfect. I haven't added cabbage since my daughter was born, but I idea I would requite information technology a shot. I did add onions, fresh garlic, extra mustard seed, and celery, but on the whole information technology would take been easy and succulent regardless. I likewise cutting up the red potatoes and carrots and boiled them off ten min earlier calculation the cabbage, then boiled off the cabbage for 10 min, and then returned the rested beef to the pot for some other 10-fifteen min on simmer. Anyhow you do information technology, information technology's piece of cake and delicious. Will add mushrooms next fourth dimension, I recollect. If y'all cut your potatoes don't overcook. I also serve with Southern style cornbread.

This recipe worked well. I did melt my brisket in water and the veggies turned out just a bit banal. Next time I will endeavour using beef goop as suggested by other reviewers. All in all a good recipe that I will use again.
